Vanniya Revan

South Indian Inscriptions, Volume-III, Number-29, Page 58-59 refers about the great Chieftain Vanniya Revan.  Vanniya Revan is perhaps identical with the Haihaya Mahamandalesvara Revarasa, who is mentioned as a vassal of Somesvara-I, in an inscription of A.D. 1054 - 55 (Dr. Fleet's Kanarese Dynasties, second edition, P-439). The Ahavamalla (Somesvara-I) called as Salukki, i.e. the Chalukya King.

The great Kshatriya "Vanniya Revan" belongs to the clans of "Haihayas".  Haihayas belongs to the line of "Yadu"  (from the line of moon) and "Vithihotra".  The great "Agni Kula Kshatriya Kalachuris" hails from the line of "Haihayas".

The great "Vanniya Kula Kshatriya" (Agni Kula Kshatiya) Malavarayar Chieftains of Ariyalur and its members claim to belong to the "Vithihotra Gotra".  The Ariyalur Inscription refers the king "Vijaya Oppilada Malavarayar" belongs to "Vithihotra Gotra" (A.R.E, No.89 of 1926 - 27).

The "Malavarayar Chieftains of Ariyalur" are still close relatives to "Udaiyar Palaiyam Kings", "Mugasaparur Kadavarayar Kings", "Pichavaram Chola Kings", who all are belongs to the great "Vanniya Kula Kshatriya Community".
